Hi, I’m Lisa Mayfield.

I am a native of Asheville and have been a therapist for 18 years as Balanced Living Four Life. The “Four” represents the pillars of my practice - Treating the Whole You…Heart & Soul, Mind & Strength.

I have a Bachelors in Massage Therapy, Minor in Healthcare Management, am Board Certified and Licensed in North Carolina.

I have a Certification in both Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), with advanced training and Massage Therapy. My specialty in NMT is a source of the issue treatment incorporating structural assessment and correction.

I also hold a Career Diploma in Fitness and Nutrition, along with a Certification in Prenatal Massage, and a Certification as a Therapist and Instructor for Infant Massage. Further, I enjoyed being an Instructor for 3 1/2 years at The Center for Massage and Natural Health, teaching Neuromuscular Therapy and Nutrition.

I have attended trainings with Resource for Resilience, UMOJA (Health, Wellness and Justice Collective in Asheville), and I am an ongoing survivor speaker for the Trauma Intervention Program of Western North Carolina (TIP). I continue training as a trauma informed therapist through The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, as well as pursuing a certification as a Positive Psychology Coach and a certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I so love the eclectic-ness of the area, and spending time outdoors. My soul food comes from my family, fur babies, making music and art, and basking in the medicine of the sunshine! To Our Whole Health, Heart & Soul, Mind & Strength! Lisa

My Approach

With any treatment, whether NMT, or SNMT, my goal is to do effective work without causing pain. When you are in my treatment room, you will never hear, “this may hurt a little bit.” The goal is to accomplish release, while avoiding a pain response from the body. If you are in pain, the effectiveness of our work will be masked, and you may feel better, but only for a short period of time. Ultimately, my goal is to facilitate healing, retraining, and wellness that lasts for longer and longer periods of time, thus avoiding chronic pain or flare ups. The Retraining Protocol is helpful in facilitating this process. I would be happy to talk with you further about incorporating this protocol into your treatment plan!

When it comes to Nutrition Coaching, my goal is to work with you to design a plan that is user friendly and effective, specifically for YOU! There is no “cookie-cutter”, one size fits all plan.

Dream it

It started when I was managing a gym in Georgia years ago! We had a precious human who was our Massage Therapist, and every time he came in, was so patient to answer my 20 questions about the body. The body fascinated me! I loved training and educating others through personal training as well as group classes. My Chiropractor at the time decided to start a massage school. Through a miraculous string of events, I was able to be a part of the inaugural class for the school. Thus began another leg of my journey in discovering more about this wonderfully created thing we call the body!

Build it

I completed school and began to incorporate Neuromuscular Therapy into what was, at the time, my Fitness and Nutrition practice. Since then my practice has continued to grow using source of the issue treatments, rather than simply treating symptoms. Not only do I enjoy treating the source of pain, but also educating clients on how their bodies work. This allows them to understand the why and how of the treatment, as well as why it is important to follow their post treatment plan at home.
